A miata would be the most fun sports car you can buy. As for the fastest, I think a neon SRT-4. But its definitly not a sports car.

I have a ’99 Miata for sale for less. It has a J/R supercharger, 4-1 header, 2.5″ exhaust, nology wires, forged aluminum wheels and a roll bar. 165Hp at the tires and handles better than almost anything.
there are plenty of options
if you like japanese cars go for the Honda S2000. There is nothing like it. Its performance rivals sports cars with a price tag of over 50,000.
you could also try the mitsubishi lancer especially the evolution.
mazdas are pretty good
so is the ford mustang if you can find a good used one.
